Observation and Modeling of Small Spatial Structures of Solar Radio Noise Storms using the uGMRT by S. Mondal et al.

September 2, 2025

One of the most commonly observed solar radio sources in the metric and decametric wavelengths are the so-called solar noise storms. These are generally associated with active regions and are believed to be powered by the plasma emission mechanism. Since plasma emission emits primarily at the fundamental and the harmonic of the local plasma frequency, the apparent angular size of the source can become significantly scatter-broadened due to the multi-path […]

Discovery of correlated evolution in noise storm source parameters: Insights on $\vec{B}$ dynamics during a microflare by A. Mohan

April 13, 2021

Solar noise storms are known to be related to small and large scale magnetic field enhancements at active regions (Elgaroy 1977, Li et al.,2017). However, the mechanism still remain unclear. Their high spectro-temporal variability and ubiquity of weak events demanded sub-second and sub-MHz scale imaging with high dynamic ranges (DRs) to reliably study emission from individual sources. Using high DR snapshot spectroscopic images from the Murchison Widefield Array, this work […]

High resolution observations of radio noise storms in the solar corona by Prasad Subramanian and Claude Mercier

September 6, 2016

The solar corona is a well known site for particle acceleration – examples range from spectacular large flares to the hard-to-observe nanoflares that are now a leading candidate for coronal heating. We focus here on radio noise storms, which are very commonplace instances of small electron acceleration episodes. Noise storm sources are relatively small (less than 1 arcmin) and vary over timescales shorter than a second. There can often be […]

High dynamic range solar radio images by combining visibilities from the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope and the Nancay Radioheliographby Claude Mercier

December 7, 2006

We present first results from an ongoing program of combining data from the Nancay Radioheliograph NRH and the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope GMRT, to produce snapshot images of the Sun at meter wavelengths. The data processing includes a superposition of complex visibilities from NRH and GMRT, a Fourier Transform and a cleaning multi-scale algorithm. We show results from a simulation and an observation of a complex noise storm at 327 […]
